'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Stamp Our Authority

Two important games and two important win were secured in four days, which is just what the doctor ordered.

Burton looked like they would be denied a win; that was deserved, against Mansfield on Tuesday night but an option from the bench secured us a 1-0 win in the end.

Gary Rowett hasn't spoken much about this game on it's own, he has chosen to speak more about the Bristol Rovers and Mansfield games collectively.

It was known going into these two games that they would be "crucial" to our season but not season defining.

Rowett told BBC Radio Derby: 'The two games were always going to be crucial, but you don't want them to define your season by any shape or form.

'But they just came at a nice time where you're thinking if we can just turn this home form round a little bit, it helps because if you end up losing the two games, a little bit of negativity can creep in. Then you can get a bit of fear factor creeping in when the players turn up at the Pirelli, whereas last season, it was obviously a fortress.

'I thought it was really important that we just tried to stamp our authority on these two games and I think the way we've gone about both of them has been pretty good.'

The start to Tuesday nights game, and the one at the weekend pleased him but he wants a little bit more going forward but was of course delighted to get six points from six.

He added: 'We've started both games really well, we've had just that little bit more tempo about us and a little bit more energy in the areas we've wanted it and we've been very pleased with both results.'

Only Alan Marriott in the Stags goal had prevented us from taking the lead by making some fine saves but we weren't to be denied with Billy Kee coming off the bench to do what Billy Kee does best, score!

We've now consolidated our play off spot, which will be the minimum that I'd hope we can now hold down....
