Holness Opts For Tranmere

Holness Opts For Tranmere

Earlier this week Gary Rowett was hopeful, confident even, that Marcus Holness would sign a new Burton deal but the defender has decided to move on.

With Holness taking longer to commit his future to the club it was looking less likely that he would and come Friday his exit from the Pirelli Stadium, after two seasons with the club, was confirmed with him leaving for league 2 rivals Tranmere Rovers.

Tranmere boss Rob Edwards told their official website: 'He's got plenty of experience with Rochdale and Burton in League Two.

'He's good in the air, fast and is a player I've been impressed by every time I've seen him.'

The 25-year-old wasn't an automatic first choice pick for Rowett but always did a job when called upon so his loss will be a blow to Rowett and leave him in the market for another central defender now.
