Burton's 2014/15 season go underway with an away win on Saturday.
It wasn't always convincing but Burton got the job done with a one-nil win over Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium to collect three-points to start the league 2 season.
The Brewers are notoriously poor starters to the league, this win was the first opening day win in six, and whilst it took a while to 'get to grips' with Oxford's play when we did we did well with Gary Rowett very happy with the defence and thinking the counter-attacking play was really good.
Speaking to the media after the game he said: 'For some reason we have always struggled in our first game of the season. This was our first opening-day win in six attempts.
'Defensively we were excellent again and we counter-attacked really well and we should have made more of it at times. We just possibly lacked a bit of quality with that final ball or final shot.
'It took us a while to get to grips with their shape. We needed to play with a bit more aggression and I think we did that after about 25 minutes.'
The winning goal was scored by Lucas Akins just before the half time break, he marked his debut with a goal and you can't ask much more than that!
Akins has impressed during pre-season with Rowett happy to see him start the season with a goal, although he's a winger he also comes in like a 'second striker', you'll not often see him standing out on the wing waiting, and Rowett praised that.
Rowett knows we played well enough but knows we can, and will, 'get better': 'There were some very good performances out there and we can get better.
'We defended resolutely. I have to say that Oxford is one of our favourite places to come after last season's performance and win, and that gave us a bit of confidence coming here.'
